Victor J. Atun, MD
Dr. Atun was born and raised in Lima, Peru. He attended an eight year combined college and medical school where he excelled in surgery and trauma. He spent several summer vacations volunteering at St. Elizabeth Hospital Medical Center in Youngstown, Ohio where he became interested in plastic surgery.
After completing Cayetano Medical School with Honors in Lima, Peru, Dr. Atun moved to the United States where he entered an externship in general surgery and trauma at the University of Florida. He then completed an internship in general surgery at St. Elizabeth Hospital Medical Center in Youngstown, Ohio. His residency in general surgery was performed at Mount Sinai Hospital Medical Center in Miami Beach, Florida and at the University of South Florida in Tampa, Florida. After graduation, Dr. Atun became board certified in general surgery by the American Board of Surgery.
To pursue his dream of becoming a plastic surgeon, Dr. Atun then moved to Washinton, D.C. where he spent the next two years as a plastic surgery resident at the George Washington University. He completed extensive training in pediatric plastic surgery at the Children's National Medical Center, in reconstructive surgery at the Walter Reed Army Medical Center, and in cosmetic surgery at the George Washington University Medical Center. After completion of his residency, Dr. Atun was invited to train further at the well-known Washington Institute of Cosmetic Dermatology and Laser Surgery.
After becoming board certified by the American Board of Plastic Surgeons, Dr. Atun returned to South America for two years. During this time, he continued to perfect his skills especially in the areas of cosmetic surgery as well as hand surgery, cleft lip and palate, and burns and wound care.
Finally, after 18 years of constant studying and training, Dr. Atun moved back to the United States and settled in Sugar Land, Texas where he opened his practice in December 2000.
Dr. Atun has found great satisfaction participating in several volunteer mission trips to Peru and Equador to operate on patients in need. Dr. Atun loves what he does and with his extensive education and training he is able to provide you with the best medical care possible.
When not working, Dr. Atun loves to cycle, cook, garden, and spend time with his family.
