• Breast Augmentation
Breast enlargement, or augmentation mammoplasty, enhances the body contour of a woman who is unhappy with her small breast size. Other purposes of this procedure include: to correct reduction in breast volume after pregnancy, to balance a difference in breast size, and as a reconstructive technique following breast surgery.
• Breast Lift
Breast lift surgery, or mastopexy, restores a more youthful appearance to a woman’s breasts. Over the years breasts can lose their shape and firmness due to pregnancy, nursing and loss of skin elasticity, causing them to sag. Mastopexy will raise and reshape breasts, slowing the effects of aging and gravity. This procedure can reduce the size of the areola, the darker skin surrounding the nipple.
Mastopexy is commonly performed in conjunction with breast augmentation (implants) to increase breast firmness and size. This may appeal to women who have lost breast volume after pregnancy. Pregnancy and nursing often result in stretched skin and therefore decreased volume. If you are planning a future pregnancy, it is advisable to postpone your breast lift as pregnancy will likely cause further stretching.
As with all plastic surgery, realistic expectations and emotional stability are important. Though breasts of any size can be lifted, women with smaller breasts enjoy longer lasting results.
• Breast Reduction
Breast reduction, or reduction mammoplasty, is for a woman experiencing health problems and/or extreme self-consciousness associated with very large, heavy breasts. The goal is to give the woman a more attractive contour with smaller, better-shaped breasts in proportion with the rest of her body. She will then benefit from freedom of health problems associated with large breasts and an improved self-image.
Medical problems associated with very large breasts include back and neck pain caused by the excessive weight, skin irritation, skeletal deformities and breathing problems. Bra straps may leave shoulder indentations. Large, heavy breasts also contribute to poor posture, and can interfere with normal daily activities such as exercise. Excessive breast size may also lead to a decreased sense of attractiveness and self-confidence.
• Breast Reconstruction
Breast reconstruction offers much hope for a woman losing her breast(s) to cancer. Reconstruction can often be performed immediately after the mastectomy, so the woman does not have to live with one breast. Learn more about breast reconstruction in Orange County, CA...
• Skin Cancer
Skin cancer is the most common form of cancer in the United States. More than 500,000 new cases are reported each year—and the incidence is rising faster than any other type of cancer. While skin cancers can be found on any part of the body, about 80 percent appear on the face, head, or neck, where they can be disfiguring as well as dangerous.
• Liposuction
Liposuction is designed for the permanent removal of fatty tissue, commonly referred to as "cellulite." It is an elective procedure that allows the plastic surgeon to remove undesirable, subcutaneous fat in isolated areas that do not respond to diet and exercise. These areas include the hips, thighs, abdomen, knees, ankles, face and neck.
• Tummy Tuck
Abdominoplasty, or a "tummy tuck," is designed to correct a protruding abdomen resulting from weak abdominal muscles, weight gain or pregnancy. Obesity causes the skin to lose its elasticity. These conditions may not respond well to diet or exercise if the skin and underlying muscles have been stretched.
With abdominoplasty, the abdominal wall muscles are tightened and excess fatty tissue and skin are removed to improve the body contour. The goal is a narrower, flatter abdomen. Realistic expectations are important. Abdominoplasty is not a substitute for weight loss.
• Male Cosmetic Surgery
Our society places a high value on looking young and fit. Today, men of all ages and all walks of life are requesting plastic surgery for cosmetic reasons which include: a more balanced nose, a rejuvenated face, or a trimmer waistline. The procedures used to achieve these goals must take skin thickness, beard growth and body type into account.
• Endoscopic Plastic Surgery
Endoscopic surgery has been used for decades in various procedures, including gallbladder removal, tubal ligation, and knee surgery. This type of surgery is performed with the aid of an endoscope, a special viewing instrument that allows a surgeon to see images of the body's internal structures through very small incisions. In the world of plastic surgery, endoscopic instruments have recently been introduced. Endoscopy is now being used on a limited basis for both cosmetic and reconstructive procedures.
• Otoplasty
Otoplasty is an operation designed to bring the ears closer to the side of the head. It may also improve their shape. School age children often undergo this surgery. Classmates may unmercifully tease children with name-calling such as "dumbo". This relatively simple procedure can produce a great result and relief for a child. It is not limited to children though. Adults are also candidates.
An otoplasty creates several changes in the ear. They are all natural looking and to someone unaware that you have had surgery it is unlikely they would think that your ear had been surgically altered. These changes are: 1) A less prominent earlobe — resulting in less space for an earring. 2) A flatter concha. The concha is the cup-like area surround the ear canal. Sutures placed in the cartilage flatten it. 3) A more shallow sulcus. The normal groove behind the ear is known as the retroauricular sulcus. This change may effect the way your glasses fit.
• Rhinoplasty
Dr. Wald performs rhinoplasty in order to reshape the nose. Appearance can be improved for those people who are dissatisfied with the shape and size of their nose. Nasal reconstruction was one of the first cosmetic procedures ever developed and is among those most frequently performed today.
• Facelift
Facelift surgery, or a rhytidectomy, is designed to restore a more youthful appearance by removing major wrinkles and sagging skin. It involves tightening of the facial and neck muscles as well as the removal of any excess skin
• Mini Facelift
Short scar (minimal facelift) surgery can be performed with minimal anesthesia and a short recovery period. Return to work within one week and make-up can be applied three days following surgery. Consultation is required to determine if this procedure is applicable to the patient.
• Blepharoplasty
Eyes are a prominent facial feature. It is the surrounding skin, rather than the eyes themselves, that conveys emotion. The tissue, muscle, fat, hair and lashes all contribute to the wide array of expressions. Age, sun exposure and hereditary factors all contribute to wrinkles, deep lines and puffiness around the eyes.
• Endoscopic Browlift
Dr. Wald performs brow and forehead lifts to raise eyebrows and reduce ridges and furrows on the forehead, thus creating a smoother, more youthful appearance. This procedure can be performed in conjunction with other surgeries.
Newer techniques now allow us to perform Forehead Lifting through small incisions in the scalp by using an Endoscope and specialized instruments. This accelerates the healing process. Traditionally an incision was made across the top of the head from the front of one ear to the front of the other ear. The forehead and brows are elevated and excess skin is removed. The flap is then sutured.
• Laser Skin Resurfacing
As one of the most exciting and innovative scientific achievements of the decade, Laser technology is being utilized throughout the health care community. Dr. Wald uses one of the newest lasers, the ultrapulse carbon dioxide laser, to treat sun-damaged skin, facial wrinkles and scars in a procedure called laser skin resurfacing.
