Dr. Boardman has developed a special interest in cosmetic surgery since graduating medical school. Being a general surgeon, he has worked with a variety of cosmetic surgeons in the treatment of diseases and the reconstruction after surgical procedures. This began with his work at Westchester Medical Center. During his residency he rotated into the burn unit and onto the plastic surgery services. In those rotations he treated severely burned patients, assisted with the reconstruction of breast cancer patients and patients needing advanced reconstruction of cosmetic defects. This interest continued with his practice at Keller Army Community Hospital where he learned to perform abdominoplasties on patients who had significant weight loss after gastric bypass surgery. He also furthered his education on breast cosmetics by treating and reconstructing breast cancer patients. After opening Clermont Surgical Associates, he took time out of his busy practice to educate himself further on the subtleties of cosmetic breast surgery in order to be able to offer his patients the most comprehensive surgical practice around. He has partnered with Drs Lewis and McLean of Clermont Obstetrics and Gynecology, to be able to offer most cosmetic and skin related care.
Dr. Boardman is also an integral part of the South Lake Community. He supports the local community by giving health related lectures/talks, participating in fund raising events, donating to local charities, being a Chairman of South Lake Hospital's Quality Control Committee and being a President of the South Lake Independant Physician Association and a board memeber of the Lake Sumter Medical Society. Breast augmentation, also known as mammoplasty, is a surgical enhancement procedure to accentuate the size and shape of a woman's breasts. While breast augmentation will make the breasts larger, the surgery will not move the breasts closer together or lift sagging breasts. Breast augmentation is tremendous help to patients who desire a fuller profile, who have lost breast volume due to pregnancy or nursing, or who have undergone breast reconstruction and want to gain a more natural look again.
AWAKE Breast Augmentation
The AWAKE Breast Augmentation is a method of anesthesia used to perform breast augmentation. In the past breast augmentation was done under general anesthesia where the patient is completely under and unable to participate in the final outcome of her breast surgery.
With the AWAKE Breast Augmentation a dilute lidocaine solution is used to numb the area of surgery with the patient under a very mild sedative but fully coherent and awake. When the time comes to determine the final size of the patient's implants she can participate in the decision. By using saline implants small amounts of saline can be added or subtracted from the implants with the patient participating to get the look that she is after.
Since we perform this procedure in our office without the use of general anesthesia, there is none of the side effects that come with this type of anesthesia. Also there is added savings that is passed onto the patient. This savings can be from several hundred to over $1000 dollars.
Every woman deserves to have a caring and compassionate physician on their side when it comes to breast health. In our country 1 in 8 women will develop breast cancer within their lifetime. There will be approximately 179,000 new cases of female breast cancer in the U.S. in 2007 with 41,000 deaths. At Clermont Surgical Associates we strive to stay on top of new developments in the treatment and diagnostic modalities available when it comes to breast health. Within our office we offer routine breast screening, review of radiology studies, Ultrasound performed by our physician, biopsies and surgical treatment of breast diseases. In our office we have a Mammotome biopsy device for minimally invasive biopsies. We also offer Mammosite catheter placement for high dose radiation treatment of a breast cancer (in conjunction with the radiation oncologist). We also offer genetic screening and counseling for those at high risk.
A breast lift, also known as a mastopexy, is a procedure to raise and reshape sagging breasts. As a woman ages, skin loses some elasticity which can cause the breasts to lose their natural shape and firmness. This procedure is designed to elevate the breasts and give them a more youthful appearance. A breast lift may also be completed in conjunction with breast enlargement surgery (augmentation).
Male Breast Procedures
Male breast disease is rare although men can get breast cancer (<1% of all breast cancers are in men) or develop gynecomastia (too much breast tissue). Both of these disease have been treated with great success by our surgeon.
