BREAST PROCEDURES

• Breast Augmentation
A self goal for many women is to feel confident, alive and vibrant while looking their best. For thousands of women such confidence and personal satisfaction has been achieved through breast augmentation. Breast augmentation uses saline/silicone implants to help women achieve their desired shape and size of their breast to complement the rest of their body contour.
A majority of women elect this procedure for self-confidence, breast size, and breast shape. Others elect breast augmentation to correct a loss in breast volume after pregnancy, breast feeding, and weight loss. Your individual reasons for considering breast augmentation will be unique and personal. These decisions should be discussed with Dr. Louis in detail, while you are confident that a frank and open discussion with Dr. Louis has taken place concerning all your questions, risks, and possible outcomes.

• Breast Lift
Breast lift or mastopexy is a surgical procedure that raises and reshapes sagging breast. Factors that cause sagging breast are pregnancy, nursing, weight change, aging, and gravity produce changes in your appearance. As the skin loses elasticity, the breast often loose there original shape and begin to sag. Dr. Louis performs this surgery to raise and reshape the breast to the patient's desired size and appearance.
This surgery can also reduce the size of the areola. If your breast were small or have lost volume after pregnancy, saline/silicone breast implants can be inserted in conjunction with a lift to increase both firmness and size. The best candidates for a breast lift are healthy, emotionally stable women who have realistic expectations about what the surgery can accomplish. Breasts of any size can be lifted, but the results may not last as long in woman with heavy, large breasts.

• Breast Reduction
Women who have large breasts may experience a variety of problems from the weight and size of their breasts, such as back, neck, and shoulder pain, as well as skin irritation. The best candidates for surgery are those who are mature enough to understand the procedure and have realistic expectations about the results.
There are a variety of surgical techniques used to reduce and reshape the female breast. There are both risks and complications associated with reduction mammaplasty surgery. In a majority of cases insurance does not cover breast reductions for patients. Breast reduction is usually performed for relief of painful symptoms rather than to enhance the appearance of the breasts.
In a cosmetic case, a breast reduction is for women with large breast that have a concern for appearance and self confidence. In many cases a cosmetic breast reduction is performed to contour the breast to compliment each individual woman's body structure.

• Breast Reconstruction
Most mastectomy patients are medically appropriate for breast reconstruction, either immediately following breast tissue removal or at a later time. The best candidates, however, are women whose cancer, as far as can be determined, seems to be eliminated by mastectomy. There are legitimate reasons to delay breast reconstruction.
Some women may be advised by their surgeon or oncologist to wait until other forms of necessary cancer treatment are completed. Other patients may require more complex breast reconstruction procedures. Women who smoke, or who have other health conditions, such as obesity or high blood pressure, may be advised to postpone surgery. In any case, being informed of your options concerning breast reconstruction can help you prepare for a mastectomy with a more positive outlook on the future. Dr. Louis works closely with many oncologist and general surgeons in the Central Florida area. Please contact our office to schedule an appointment in order to explore all surgical options.

• Breast Reduction
Women who have large breasts may experience a variety of problems from the weight and size of their breasts, such as back, neck, and shoulder pain, and skin irritation. Breast reduction is usually performed for relief of these symptoms rather than to enhance the appearance of the breasts. The best candidates for surgery are those who are mature enough to understand the procedure and have realistic expectations about the results.
There are a variety of different surgical techniques used to reduce and reshape the female breast. Dr. Louis requires some type of alternative treatment that would consist of not undergoing the surgical procedure until the patient has successfully tried, physical therapy to treat pain complaints, or wearing undergarments to support large breasts. After this criteria has been met Dr. Louis will begin the process of submitting all information required to show your insurance company that a surgical procedure is the only remaining option.

• Nipple/ Areola Surgery
Nipple reconstruction involves the restoration of the nipple-areola complex lost due to injury, breast cancer or other conditions. A variety of different techniques exist for reconstruction of the nipple and its surrounding areola tissue. These include the use of skin grafts taken from other regions of the body, local flaps of breast skin that are shaped into a nipple, or the sharing of tissue from the opposite nipple-areola region.
The areola reduction consists of reducing the size and appearance of the areola. This allows for the patient to achieve a natural symmetry of the areola in comparison with the breast. This procedure is usually combined with a mastopexy (lift) or a breast augmentation to resolve any inconsistencies in the size of the areola. Additional techniques such as tattooing may be used to add color to the tissue if needed. Contact our office to schedule a consultation with Dr. Louis to discuss all surgical options.

• Pediatric Plastic Surgery
There are two basic categories of patients: those who have congenital deformities, otherwise known as birth defects, and those with developmental deformities, acquired as a result of accident, infection, disease, or in some cases, aging. Some common examples of congenital abnormalities are birthmarks; hand deformities such as syndactyly (webbed fingers), or extra or absent fingers. In another case, a young child might have reconstructive otoplasty (outer-ear surgery) to correct overly-large or deformed ears.
Usually, health insurance policies will consider the cost of reconstructive surgery a covered expense. Check with your carrier to make sure you are covered and to see if there are any limitations on the type of surgery you are planning. As a father himself Dr. Louis understands the stress and the worry a parent would experience if their child has a medical need. Dr. Louis would be happy to talk to you about the cosmetic and reconstructive needs for your child.

• Skin Cancer
Skin cancer is the most common form of cancer in the United States. While skin cancers can be found on any part of the body, about 80 percent appear on the face, head, or neck, where they can be disfiguring as well as dangerous.
By far the most common type of skin cancer is basal cell carcinoma. Though basal cell carcinoma is seldom life-threatening, if left untreated it can grow deep beneath the skin and into the underlying tissue and bone, causing serious damage.
Squamous cell carcinoma is the next most common type of skin cancer, appearing on the lips, face, or ears. It sometimes spreads to distant sites, including lymph nodes and internal organs. Squamous cell carcinoma can become life threatening if not treated.
A third form of skin cancer, malignant melanoma, is the least common. Malignant melanoma is the most dangerous type of skin cancer. If discovered early, it can be completely cured. If not treated quickly, however, malignant melanoma may spread throughout the body and is often deadly.

OTHER PROCEDURES

• Abdominoplasty
A flat and well toned abdomen is what many of us strive to achieve through exercise and weight control. Sometimes these methods cannot achieve our goals. Abdominoplasty, also known as a “tummy tuck” is a surgical procedure that removes excess skin and fatty tissue from the middle and lower abdomen and in most cases restores weakened or separated muscles creating an abdominal profile that is smoother and firmer.
Abdominoplasty is not a surgical treatment for being overweight. Obese individuals who intend to lose weight should postpone all forms of body contouring surgery until they have reached a stable and ideal weight for their body structure. Dr. Louis will discuss in detail the procedure style which he will perform that has given way for tremendous results. Abdominoplasty can also be combined with other forms of body-contouring surgery, including liposuction, fat injections, and breast augmentation.

• Liposuction
Liposuction is a surgical technique to remove unwanted fat deposits from specific areas of the body. These areas can include the face, neck, upper arms, trunk, abdomen, buttocks, hips, thighs, knees, calves, and ankles. Liposuction is not a substitute for weight reduction, but a method for removing localized deposits of fatty tissue that do not respond to diet or exercise.
Liposuction may be performed as a primary procedure for body contouring, or combined with other surgical techniques such as facelifts, abdominoplasty, or thigh lift procedures to tighten loose skin and supporting structures. The ideal candidates for liposuction are individuals of relatively normal weight who have excess fat in particular body areas. Having firm, elastic skin will give way for a better final contour after liposuction. Skin that has diminished tone due to stretch marks, weight loss, or natural aging, will not easily reshape itself to the new contours with liposuction and may require additional surgical procedures to remove and tighten the excess skin.

• Belt Lipectomy
If you desire a firmer, more youthful body contour, then a body lift may help you achieve those results. A belt lipectomy is most common following a gastric bypass surgery for overweight patients. This surgical procedure removes excess skin and fatty tissue from the middle and lower abdomen, hips, outer thighs, back, buttocks, and to tighten muscles of the abdominal wall. It also improves the shapes and tone of the underlying tissue that supports fat and skin.
A body lift is not a surgical treatment for being overweight. Obese individuals who intend to lose weight should postpone all forms of body contouring surgery until they have reached a stable weight. A body lift can be performed at the same time with other cosmetic surgeries such as an upper arm lift, and inner thigh left to remove excess skin and fatty tissue in other areas of the body.

• Blepharoplasty
Blepharoplasty is a surgical procedure to remove excess skin and muscle from both the upper and lower eyelids. Underlying fatty tissue that produces bagginess can be selectively removed or repositioned. Blepharoplasty can improve drooping skin and bagginess. It can help improve vision in older patients who have hooding of their upper eyelids. Blepharoplasty will not remove "crow's feet" or other wrinkles, eliminate dark circles under the eyes, or lift sagging eyebrows.
Blepharoplasty surgery is customized for every patient, depending on his or her particular needs. It can be performed in conjunction with other surgical procedures of the eye, face, brow, or nose. In some patients, who have looseness between the lower eyelid and the eyeball, consideration for tightening of the lower eyelid at the time of blepharoplasty may be recommended. Eyelid surgery cannot stop the process of aging. It can however, diminish the look of loose skin and bagginess in the eyelid region.

• Brow Lift
The forehead and eyebrow region often show noticeable signs of aging. Looseness in these structures may cause drooping eyebrows, eyelid hooding, forehead furrows, and frown lines. In brow lift surgery, the structures responsible for these problems are tightened or altered to smooth the forehead, raise the upper eyebrows, and improve frown lines.
A brow lift may be performed alone, or in conjunction with other procedures, such as a facelift or eyelid surgery. Advances in brow lift surgery make it possible to perform the procedure through a variety of approaches, including endoscopy. Brow lift surgery is individualized for each patient. The surgical incisions used may vary with the technique selected by your surgeon to meet your needs.

• Chin Surgery
Chin Surgery, also known as mentoplasty, is a surgical procedure to reshape the chin either by enhancement with an implant or reduction surgery of the bone. Chin surgery allows for a symmetric look in relation to other facial structures.
In many cases, Dr. Louis may recommend chin surgery to a patient undergoing nose surgery in order to achieve facial proportion, for the size of the chin may magnify or minimize the perceived size of the nose. Chin surgery helps provide a harmonious balance to your facial features so that you feel better about the way you look.

• Facelift
A facelift is a surgical procedure to improve visible signs of aging on the face. As individuals age, the skin and muscles of the face region begin to lose tone. A facelift cannot stop the process of aging, but can improve the most visible signs of aging by tightening deeper structures, re-draping the skin of the face, and removing selected areas of fat. A facelift can be performed alone, or in conjunction with other procedures, such as a browlift, neck lift, liposuction, eyelid surgery, or nasal surgery.
Facelift surgery is individualized for each patient. The best candidates for facelift surgery have sagging and wrinkling of the skin, but also possess elasticity. A well defined bone structure can enhance the outcome from this surgical procedure.

• Otoplasty
Ear surgery, also known as otoplasty is a surgical procedure to reset prominent showing ears back against the head. The procedure can also allow for a reduction in the size of one's ears.
Ear surgery is recommended to be performed at a young age to avoid recovery time to interfere with daily activities, such as sports, recreation and schooling. A child's ears are usually fully developed by the age of four. Ear surgery can also be performed on older patients without any significant additional risk with age.
If you're considering ear surgery for yourself or your child, please be sure to ask Dr. Louis if there is anything you don't understand about the procedure.

• Rhinoplasty
Rhinoplasty surgery is performed to correct bumps and unwanted distortions of the nose as a result of heredity, or the noses appearance may have been altered in an injury or during a prior procedure. The procedure reshapes and reduces the size of the nose, while improving its profile and/or angle, enhancing facial harmony and self confidence.
Rhinoplasty will reshape your nose, while it may also improve your breathing from the reconstructing of your nasal passages. A clear idea of your expected results that you are seeking and understanding the limitations of rhinoplasty surgery is necessary. Dr. Louis offers a great opportunity to regain a pleasing and symmetrical shape to your nose.

Smartlipo

Smartlipo is a laser assisted lipolysis system to remove unwanted fat cells from specific areas of the body. These areas can include the face, neck, upper arms, trunk, abdomen, buttocks, hips, thighs, knees, calves, and ankles.

Smartlipo has allowed for the use of a less invasive technique then conventional liposuction. In some cases local anesthesia can be used, but for larger fat cell pockets it is recommended that Smartlipo be performed in an accredited surgery facility under general anesthesia.

Smartlipo may be a primary procedure for body contouring, or combined with other surgical techniques such as facelifts, abdominoplasty, or thigh lift procedures to tighten loose skin and supporting structures.

The ideal candidates for Smartlipo are individuals of relatively normal weight who have excess fat in particular body areas. Having firm, elastic skin will give way for a better final contour after Smartlipo. Skin that has diminished tone due to stretch marks, weight loss, or natural aging, will not easily reshape itself to the new contours with Smartlipo and may require additional surgical procedures to remove and tighten the excess skin.

• Thigh Lift
Thigh lift surgery is a surgical procedure to remove excess skin and fatty tissue deposits from the medial thighs. Ones expectations for this procedure should be to remove the dimpled look on the thighs, which is produced by cellulite. Allowing for a more youthful and proportionate body image. Resulting in smoother skin and better contours of the thighs and lower body.
There are a variety of different techniques used by Dr. Louis for a medial thigh lift. A medial thigh lift is commonly combined with other forms of body-contouring surgery, including suction-assisted lipectomy, abdominoplasty, and liposuction to enhance the outcome of these surgical procedures. A medial thigh lift is not a surgical treatment for being overweight. Obese individuals who intend to lose weight should postpone all forms of body contouring surgery until they have reached a stable weight.

• Upper Arm Lift
Arm lift, also known as a brachioplasty is a surgical procedure that reshapes the under portion of the arm, from the underarm region to the elbow by removing excess skin and fatty tissue. Resulting with a more toned and proportionate appearance. With age, weight change, and gastric bypass surgery the arms skin will become loose a flabby leaving your arms with a saggy and wrinkled look. Dr. Louis will discuss all options available to achieve the best results for you as a patient. There are a variety of different techniques used by Dr. Louis for a brachioplasty.
Brachioplasty can be combined with other forms of body-contouring surgery, including abdominolplasty, breast augmentation, belt lipectomy, and thigh lift. Obese individuals who intend to lose weight should postpone all forms of body-contouring surgery until they have reached a stable weight.
